A 3-Day Itinerary for Dubai, Hour by Hour

Oct 18, 2026 ·

Three days is enough to see Dubai’s old and new sides without rushing, if you group sights by area and use the Metro. This plan uses a relaxed pace: two or three main stops per day, a long midday break, and honest travel times.

How This Plan Works

  • Base: Assumes a hotel near a Metro station in Deira, Bur Dubai or Downtown. Adjust start times if you stay elsewhere.
  • Season: Written for October to April, when mornings and evenings are comfortable. In summer, move outdoor stops to early morning and after sunset.
  • Walking times are estimates for an average adult at a relaxed pace. Add 5 to 10 minutes in heat or crowds.
  • Prices are approximate and can change. Check opening hours and ticket availability before you go, especially for the Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Fountain.
  • Transport: Buy a nol card at any Metro station. A single Metro ride costs roughly AED 3 to 7.50 depending on zones, and a nol day pass is about AED 20 for unlimited Metro, tram and bus travel.
  • Rest matters: Dubai’s malls and stations are air-conditioned, but the walks between them are not. The plan builds in an afternoon break each day.

Day 1: Old Dubai and the Creek

Day 1 stays in the historic heart of the city, where distances are short and most things cost little. You will cover about 4 km on foot in total, split into short stretches.

TimePlanGetting there and walking time
8:00Breakfast near your hotel (karak chai, eggs, flatbread)Local café, 5 min walk
9:00Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood: lanes, wind-tower houses, small galleriesMetro to Al Fahidi station, then 10 min walk
10:30Dubai Museum area and Bastakiya cafés for a short coffee stop5 to 10 min walk within the neighborhood
11:30Walk to the Bur Dubai abra dock and cross the Creek by traditional boat (about AED 1)10 to 12 min walk, then 5 to 10 min crossing
12:00Deira Spice Souk and Gold Souk: browse, bargain, take photos5 to 10 min walk from the abra landing
13:30Lunch in Deira: biryani, grilled meats or shawarma (about AED 20 to 35)Within the souk area, 5 min walk
14:30Break at the hotel (rest, shower, charge phone)Metro or taxi, 10 to 20 min
17:00Walk along the Creek promenade or visit Dubai Creek Park area for cooler airMetro or taxi, 10 to 20 min
18:30Sunset on the water: an optional dhow cruise dinner on the Creek (compare prices first)Short taxi or 15 min walk, depending on where you board
20:30Back to the hotelMetro or taxi, 10 to 20 min

Realistic notes for Day 1. The abra crossing is short but can have a queue at peak times. Souk shopkeepers may call out to you, and a polite “no thank you” is enough. If you buy gold or spices, ask for the price first and compare before agreeing. Wear comfortable shoes, because lanes can be uneven.

Day 2: Downtown Dubai

Day 2 is the modern city: the Burj Khalifa, the Dubai Mall and the fountain. Distances here look short on a map but feel long, because the mall is huge and the outdoor walks are exposed to the sun.

TimePlanGetting there and walking time
8:30Breakfast at your hotel or a café near the Metro5 min walk
9:30Metro to Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station15 to 30 min by Metro depending on your starting area, plus a covered walkway of about 10 to 15 min to the mall
10:00Dubai Mall: aquarium viewing, shops, and the indoor waterfallInside the mall, allow 10 to 15 min between wings
12:30Lunch in the mall food court or a casual restaurant (about AED 40 to 80)Inside the mall
14:00Rest break: cafe or return to the hotelMetro back, 15 to 30 min
16:00Return to Downtown and the Burj Khalifa observation deck (book an afternoon-to-sunset slot ahead)Metro 15 to 30 min, then 15 min covered walk
17:00Burj Khalifa observation deck at sunsetIn the tower, allow about 1 to 1.5 hours including queues
18:45Walk the Burj Lake promenade and watch the Dubai Fountain show (check evening show times)5 to 10 min walk from the mall
20:00Dinner at a restaurant overlooking the fountain, or return for a cheaper meal near your hotelTaxi 10 to 15 min or Metro 20 to 30 min
21:30Back to the hotelMetro or taxi

Realistic notes for Day 2. The walk from the Metro to the Dubai Mall is covered and air-conditioned but long, so plan 10 to 15 minutes each way. Burj Khalifa tickets are cheaper online and ahead of time, and sunset slots sell out first. If a fountain show is mid-way through the dinner hour, eat first and watch afterward to avoid a long wait.

Day 3: Beach, Marina and a Flexible Evening

Day 3 is the easiest: sea air, a long walk by the water and room to rest. The Marina and JBR sit along the same Metro and tram corridor, so you can do both without a taxi.

TimePlanGetting there and walking time
8:30Late breakfast, pack a beach bag (sunscreen, water, hat, swimwear)Near your hotel
10:00Metro to Jumeirah Lakes Towers or DMCC, then tram toward JBR30 to 45 min total depending on your start; tram ride about 15 min
11:00JBR Beach: swim, relax, or walk the shoreline5 to 10 min walk from the tram to the beach
13:00Lunch at a JBR cafe (about AED 50 to 100)5 min walk
14:30Rest in the shade or a cafe; a long break from the midday sunOn site
16:30Walk the Dubai Marina promenade (about 3 km loop, 40 to 60 min at a gentle pace)Start from JBR, 10 min walk to the marina walk
18:00Sunset by the water, or an optional marina boat tourAllow 5 to 10 min to reach the boarding point
19:30Dinner in the Marina (wide price range, so check menus first)5 to 10 min walk
21:00Optional: late coffee, dessert or souvenir shoppingNearby
22:00Taxi or Metro back to your hotelTaxi 25 to 40 min; Metro and tram 40 to 60 min

Realistic notes for Day 3. Public beaches have lifeguards and showers, but they can be crowded on weekends. A shaded umbrella and plenty of water make a big difference. If the weather is hot, shorten the beach time and spend more of the afternoon in an air-conditioned cafe.

Swap options. Replace the beach with the Museum of the Future, the Dubai Frame or a desert safari if you prefer. A desert safari usually takes about 6 to 7 hours including pick-up from your hotel, so it replaces the whole day rather than fitting into the plan.

Tips for Adjusting the Plan

  • Rain or heat: Swap outdoor stops for the Museum of the Future, the Dubai Mall aquarium or an indoor souk.
  • Staying elsewhere: Keep the same stops but shift start times by the extra travel minutes. Metro timetables and station layouts can change, so check your route in a maps app before you leave.
  • Traveling with kids or older relatives: Cut one stop per day and use taxis for the long walks.
  • Friday and weekends: Beaches, malls and attractions are busier. Book tickets early and start the day earlier.
  • Prayer times and holidays: Some venues change hours during Ramadan, public holidays and Friday midday prayers, so confirm opening times.
  • Safety and etiquette: Dress modestly in markets and malls, carry water, and keep your phone charged for maps and tickets.

Times, prices and routes are approximate and based on typical conditions in 2026. Confirm Metro, tram and attraction details before you travel.
